How to Use the Stronghold Finder
Six steps to the End portal.
- Enter your world seed in the tool below.
- Choose your edition — Java or Bedrock — and game version.
- The map shows every stronghold as a marker with exact X/Z coordinates.
- Pick the closest stronghold, or one that suits a Nether highway route.
- Travel to the X/Z, then dig down to around Y20 to break in.
- Bring at least 12 Eyes of Ender — a few extra in case some break.

Well over a hundred strongholds generate in every world, and the first few sit near the origin. Each one hides an End portal room at its heart, a library stocked with books, and silverfish lurking in the walls. Strongholds can overlap mineshafts, caves and even villages — but the portal room always survives intact.

How many strongholds are in a Minecraft world?
128 strongholds generate in every world, arranged in rings around the world origin (0,0). The first ring sits closest to spawn.
Do I still need Eyes of Ender?
Only to light the portal — you need 12 Eyes of Ender to activate it. You no longer need to throw them to find the stronghold; the finder gives you exact coordinates.
What if the portal isn’t at the shown spot?
The finder pinpoints the stronghold’s central structure. The portal room sits at the heart of the stronghold — explore inward from the coordinates and you’ll find it.
Can strongholds overlap other structures?
Yes — strongholds can intersect mineshafts, caves and even villages. The portal room itself always generates intact.
What’s the fastest way to reach a stronghold?
Build a Nether highway: 1 block travelled in the Nether equals 8 in the Overworld. Portal near spawn, tunnel to the stronghold’s Nether coordinates, then dig down.
