Minecraft Slime Chunk Finder

Type any seed and see exactly which chunks spawn slimes — mapped on a chunk grid with coordinates for your farm. Real Java Edition math, computed instantly in your browser.

Quick Facts

🟢Where Slimes SpawnIn slime chunks below Y=40, and in swamps at night between Y=51 and Y=69
📊How RareRoughly 1 in 10 chunks is a slime chunk — the pattern is fixed by your seed
🧊Chunk SizeEach chunk is 16×16 blocks and spans the full height of the world
🌙Swamp SlimesIn swamps, slimes spawn at night and the rate follows the moon phase — full moon is best

How to Use the Slime Chunk Finder

1Enter your seed

Type your world seed — a number or a word — into the tool above and press Find Slime Chunks.

2Read the grid

Green squares are slime chunks around the world origin. Click any square to see its chunk and block coordinates.

3Pick your farm chunk

Use the nearest-chunks list to choose a spot, note the block range, and copy the coordinates for your trip.

What Is a Slime Chunk?

A slime chunk is a normal 16×16 chunk with a hidden property: slimes can spawn inside it deep underground, even in fully lit caves. About one chunk in ten has this property, and which chunks qualify is decided entirely by your world seed. The pattern never changes for a given seed — a slime chunk in your world is a slime chunk forever, on every visit, at every depth below Y=40.

That is exactly what makes this finder possible. Minecraft decides slime chunks with a fixed formula that mixes your seed with the chunk’s X and Z coordinates, then runs the result through the same random generator the game itself uses. This tool runs that identical calculation for every chunk around the origin, so the grid you see is the grid the game will use — no guessing, no trial and error with spawn platforms.

Building a Slime Farm That Actually Works

Finding the chunk is only half the job. Slimes compete with every other hostile mob for the same spawn cap, so a farm built in a busy cave system will always disappoint. The setup that works:

  • Dig out the whole chunk below Y=40 — a full 16×16 footprint, several layers tall if you want multiple spawning floors.
  • Light up everything around it. Caves within about 128 blocks should be lit or slabbed so zombies and skeletons cannot steal the mob cap.
  • Wait at the right distance. Stand 24 to 32 blocks away from the spawning floors — close enough for spawns, far enough that mobs do not instantly despawn.
  • Use the right floor. Slimes need a solid surface and at least 2.5 blocks of headroom for the big ones; jack-o’-lanterns set into the floor light it without blocking spawns.

If underground farming sounds slow, remember the swamp option: in swamp biomes slimes spawn on the surface at night between Y=51 and Y=69, and a full moon gives the highest rates. It is less reliable than a chunk farm, but it needs no digging at all.

Why Your Farm Might Look Empty

The most common complaint is a correct slime chunk with no slimes in it. Almost always, the cause is the mob cap: unlit caves nearby are full of monsters, leaving no room for slimes to spawn. The second most common cause is standing in the wrong place — too close and nothing spawns, too far and everything despawns. Fix the lighting, check your distance, and give it a few minutes before blaming the chunk. You can double-check the chunk itself in-game with the F3 debug screen, which shows your current chunk coordinates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find slime chunks in my Minecraft seed?

Enter your seed in the finder above. The green squares on the grid are slime chunks, and the list below the grid gives the nearest ones with chunk and block coordinates you can walk to.

Do slime chunks work the same on Java and Bedrock?

No. This finder uses the Java Edition formula. Bedrock calculates slime chunks differently and ignores the seed, so the same coordinates will not match between editions.

At what Y level do slimes spawn in slime chunks?

Below Y=40, on any solid surface, regardless of light level. The classic farm design digs out the chunk between about Y=10 and Y=40 with several spawning floors.

Why is my slime chunk not spawning slimes?

Usually the hostile mob cap is full because of unlit caves nearby, or you are standing too close or too far from the spawning area. Light the caves within roughly 128 blocks and wait 24 to 32 blocks away.

Can slime chunks change or move?

No. For a given seed, the slime chunk pattern is permanent. It is calculated from the seed and the chunk coordinates, so it never changes between sessions or updates that keep the same world seed.
